When is the deadline for purchasing rrsps?

RRSP contributions for the 2021 tax year must be purchased no later than March 1st 2022.

What is the due date for filing a 2021 return?

Your return for the 2021 tax year is due Monday May 2nd 2022.

What is the climate action incentive?

Now that Manitoba residents are paying the federal carbon tax at the pump and on heating bills, this credit is meant to offset some of those costs. The credit depends on family size, but is not dependent on income. A family of four in Manitoba would have $720.00 added to their refund. An additional 10% is added for rural residents. New in 2021 this credit will be mailed out quarterly.

How long should I keep my Income tax records?

Make sure to keep any supporting documents for your tax returns for at least 6 years. CRA may request to see any of these documents in a review scenario.

How do i update my information with CRA?

If you have a CRA “My Account” you can login and change your address, phone number and direct deposit information online. If you do not have an account, you can change all of this information by phone (1-800-959-8281), or by using one of these forms - Change of Address Request, Direct Deposit Enrollment.

Are the fitness and arts credits still a thing?

If you are a Manitoba resident, you can still claim fitness and arts credits for your dependents. The fitness credit is available to anyone under the age of 24, while the arts credit covers children up to the age of 16. Up to $500 of eligible expenses for each fitness and arts can be claimed per child.

How Long before I need to file as common-law?

CRA considers you and your partner to be in a common-law relationship after 12 months of living together, or if you have a child together. You can change your marital status by using CRA’s “My Account” feature or by filling out this form - Change of Marital Status and sending it to your local tax centre.

What type of payment do you accept?

We accept Debit, Mastercard, Visa, Cheque, Cash and Interac E-Transfers to epayment@progressivetax.ca. There is no password necessary for any E-Transfers

I Got a call from cra saying they are going to arrest me, is this true?

There are many versions of this scam out there. CRA will never use aggressive language or threaten you with arrest or sending the police. Real CRA payments also cannot be made by e-transfer, bitcoin, prepaid credit cards or any gift cards. If you are unsure if the call is real, let the caller know to contact your representative, and they’ll give us a call. For more information on protecting yourself from fraud, click here.

what information do i need to bring to my appointment?

You can always call us to request a personalized checklist of information required for your return. But in general we need the following (PDF):
• Income Slips (T4s, employment insurance, investments)
• RRSP Slips
• Medical Receipts
• Donation Receipts
• Child Care Expenses
• Union or Professional Dues
• Student Loan Interest
• T2202 Tuition Fees
• Property Tax

How long before my refund is deposited?

In most cases, your return will be assessed and your refund will be deposited five to ten business days after being filed. CRA reserves the right to look at any return closer and that may delay your assessment. If you have a CRA “My Account” you will be able to track the status of your return there.

How do i pay CRA if I owe taxes?

There are many ways to pay CRA. Add them as a payee on your online banking, the account number is your Social Insurance Number. Use “My Payment” to pay with Visa Debit, Debit Mastercard or Interac Online. Mail a cheque to:

If you mail a cheque, make sure your social insurance number is in the memo line to ensure the payment ends up in your account.

Where can I get a copy of my notice of assessment?

CRA’s “My Account” is the best way to get copies of your notices of assessment for multiple years as well as any mail correspondence they have sent you. If you need a Notice of Assessment quickly and do not have My Account, we will be able to get you one as well.
